An Earth Leakage Circuit Breaker (ELCB) / Residual Current Detector (RCD) is a safety device that monitors the balance of current flowing through the live and neutral conductors and detects any leakage current — i.e. current flowing to ground. When leakage beyond a safe threshold occurs, the device automatically cuts off the circuit.
